Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 October 2026

This policy explains what information voicedesktop ("we", "us") collects when you use voicedesktop.com, and what we do with it. The short version: your audio never leaves your device. We built our tools so that we never receive your recordings or transcripts.

Your audio and transcripts

The online voice recorder, mic test and transcription tools run entirely inside your web browser. When you record or open a file, the audio is processed on your own device. It is not uploaded to our servers or to any third party by our tools. Your recordings and transcripts are kept only in your browser's memory, and are gone when you close the page unless you download them.

AI model downloads. To transcribe audio, your browser downloads the open source Whisper speech model and the Transformers.js library. These files come from public content delivery networks (jsDelivr and Hugging Face) and are then cached by your browser. Those providers can see that your browser requested the files, as with any website download, but they never receive your audio.

Voice typing is different. The voice typing tool uses the speech recognition service built into your browser (the Web Speech API). In Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, this service may send your audio to Google or Microsoft to recognise speech, under their own privacy policies. We do not receive or store that audio or the resulting text.

Information we collect

  • Basic server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may process technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
  • Analytics (only with your consent). If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people visit and which tools are popular. This data is aggregated and does not include your audio.
  • Advertising (only with your consent). If you accept cookies, Google AdSense may use cookies to show ads and measure their performance.
  • Settings in your browser. We save small preferences in your browser's local storage, such as dark mode, your cookie choice and your preferred transcription settings. These never leave your device.
  • Emails you send us. If you contact us, we receive your email address and message, and use them only to reply.

Cookies and your choices

When you first visit, we ask whether you accept analytics and advertising cookies. If you choose Reject, Google Analytics and AdSense are not loaded. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser settings.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. Learn more about how Google uses data at Google's partner sites policy.

Microphone access

Our tools only use your microphone after you press a button and your browser asks for permission. You can withdraw permission at any time in your browser's site settings. When you stop a recording or leave the page, we release the microphone.

Legal basis (UK and EU visitors)

We process server log data on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure website. We use analytics and advertising cookies only with your consent. Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR you have rights to access, correct, delete and object to the processing of your personal data, and to complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office). Because we do not collect your audio, there is no audio data for us to access or delete.

Children

voicedesktop is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
